BIO

Hemanth has spent his entire career as an educator and administrator in NYC public schools. He graduated with honors from Columbia University with a degree in computer science/physics and holds a master’s in education from the City College of New York. Hemanth scored a 780 on the GMAT.

Immediately after graduating from Columbia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science in 2002, Hemanth joined the NYC Teaching Fellows program and became a high school math teacher. He fell in love with the field of education and has since worked as a classroom teacher, school leader, motivational speaker, and an advocate for progressive educational policies. Hemanth’s areas of passion and expertise include the use of mindfulness practices, yoga, and meditation in schools to combat the impact of chronic, traumatic stress on student learning and the use of restorative justice practices in school discipline to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. In 2013, Hemanth co-founded a public charter middle and high school in Brooklyn, and he has served as a classroom instructor and administrator at the school.

Hemanth resides in Brooklyn with his wife and two children. He enjoys endurance challenges and has completed multiple marathons and an Ironman triathlon. He is obsessed with 90’s hip-hop and R&B, is a freestyle rapper, and is a part-time professional karaoke singer. Hemanth loves to combine these passions with his nerdy love of math and standardized tests—the result is a unique and lively test prep experience!

What students are saying

“Hemanth’s teaching methods were extremely effective and engaging. I am sad the class is over, it was so helpful! He breaks topics into very clear and concise pieces that are more easily digestible, and was particularly helpful in Quant.”
