Josh Yardley
Boston, MAGMAT
- MIT
- Harvard (grad, Ph.D. student)
After graduating from MIT with degrees in computer science and management, Josh taught as a math professor in West Africa. Since then, Josh has worked with students, teachers, and schools in over a dozen countries on three continents. He has a 780 GMAT score.
As a member of the U.S. Peace Corps, Josh headed to the village of Bomborokuy, Burkina Faso. The initial shock of living without electricity or running water faded quickly as Josh became a part of his village community and began to witness first-hand the awesome transformative power of education. Inspired by his students and colleagues in that village school, Josh returned to the States to work with a non-profit in D.C. implementing a $100 million education reform project in Pakistan. He expected this work to be sort of like that of a Peace Corps volunteer, only with the big cash to help make big things happen. It turns out large-scale development is a bit more complicated than that. Good thing Josh likes a challenge. After his first stint at the Harvard Kennedy School for a master’s program, Josh began working on evaluations of education and health programs in Africa and Asia, first with a research organization in Ghana and then with the World Bank in DC. Josh is currently back at the Harvard Kennedy School working towards a Ph.D. in public policy and doing research in online teaching and learning.
